Rowan is a great native hedge or tree species that is a popular choice in a mixed hedge. Rowan flowers from May/June with creamy white clusters of up to 250 flowers up to 15cm across with a strong sweet smell. These become the brilliant red berries for which this small tree is most known, which appear from August/September and ripen in October/November, as the leaf colour is changing to orange/red before being shed.
