Astilbe are an attractive herbaceous perennial with glossy green foliage. Plumes of pink flowers bloom in late spring or early summer and complement the dark green foliage. Old flower-heads turn brown in autumn but remain attractive.
A popular choice for shady gardens Astilbe will perform well in rich, moist soil with regular watering. Ideal in tubs and mixed containers or useful as ground cover in shady areas, they will tolerate full sun during summer. Grow in fertile, humus-rich soil and keep moist. Cut back after flowering.
