This deciduous shrub has clusters of small pink flowers in midsummer, but it's known for the clusters of stunning, violet, bead-like berries that appear in autumn and remain after the plant has lost its leaves. The early foliage is often bronze-purple, becoming dark green in summer before turning golden-purple in autumn. It will brighten up a border in autumn, or you can cut the bare branches laden with berries for winter flower arrangements. This shrub is deciduous so it will lose all its leaves in autumn, then fresh foliage appears each spring.
