This popular variety is a vigorous grower with a columnar habit, tapering at the apex. Its fast growth of up to 80cm per year makes it ideal for use as a screen or to provide fast-growing hedging. Golden evergreen foliage is held in flat sprays, making the plant easy to trim back if necessary.
Like its better known and even faster-growing relative, Chamaecyparis Leylandii, its height and spread can be controlled to `any desired size with regular trimming. However, continuous care and attention are required because, if neglected it will quickly grow out of control. They do not grow back from old wood, so it is important to trim regularly, rather than to cut back severely.
