As the name suggests, Hawthorn is a thorny hedge. It signals the arrival of spring, leafing within a few days of the initial buds appearing, it has an abundant and spectacular display of white scented blossom and develops red haws in autumn.
Hawthorn supports more than 150 species of insects, a rich food source for birds, such as blue tits etc. Dense branches covered with sharp thorns provide a safe place to roost and nest. A very bird-friendly hedge.

  • Recommended 5 plants per metre
  • Suitable for all soil types and all sites, other than a dense shade or very wet soils
  • Fast-growing
  • It’s a thorny plant, so it’s a great deterrent for intruders and wild animals – although you will still have plenty of birds calling to feast on the red haws (berries)
  • Popular native hedge
