Single white flowers are produced in the spring and its green leaves turn gold, through to red in the autumn before leaf fall. All flowering cherries prefer free-draining soils.
Cherry is successful in light shades, but fruits better in a sunny position and it does well in most soils and situations, other than exposed sites (where the flowers would blow off) and waterlogged soils.
