Often confused with the Sloe or Blackthorn, the Cherry Plum, or Myrobalan as it is sometimes known, is a deciduous tree introduced into the UK & Ireland about 300 years ago. It flowers slightly earlier than the Sloe, but with similar abundant white flowers covering the whole plant in mid-February. The flowers are followed by small edible fruits, which are green, ripening to yellow or red in late summer.
