Thuja Plicata ‘Martin’ – Instant Hedging, 180–200cm

Thuja Plicata ‘Martin’ – Instant Hedging, 180–200cm

A fast-growing, densely-foliaged form of Western Red Cedar, bred specifically for hedging and screening. Thuja Plicata ‘Martin’ holds its rich, glossy green colour right through winter, with none of the bronzing that can affect other conifer varieties in cold weather — making it one of the most reliable choices for year-round privacy and structure.

Supplied at a well-established 180–200cm, these plants give strong screening height and are ideal for boundary hedges, windbreaks, and formal or informal garden divides.

Why choose Thuja Plicata ‘Martin’:

• Dense, compact growth habit — excellent for a thick, opaque screen
• Strong winter colour retention (stays green, not bronze)
• Fast-growing: typically 30–40cm of growth per year once established
• More forgiving to trim hard than Leylandii — responds better to hard clipping back into older wood
• Tolerant of most soil types and UK/Irish weather conditions
• Evergreen — full privacy, 365 days a year

Planting & care:
Best planted in a sunny to partially shaded position, in well-drained soil. Water well for the first 1–2 growing seasons to establish a strong root system. An annual trim in late summer will keep hedges dense and formal.

Spacing guide: For a solid hedge, plant at 60–75cm centres.
